This is the saying which we have heard and we have been always been looking forward for this. Because this is what we have been taught.
Study-Go to college-Get a job-Get married-Get a life-Die!
Everyone has always been living up to this cycle. Its a neverending task. The other step is always ready before you complete the previious one. This is how it has to be followed.
We have always been taught from the very childhood…not to lie, be kind, don’t do anything bad to anyone, respect your elders etc etc. But I was shocked to see that these values do not matter at all in the “Real World”. It runs completely with the opposite philosophy. And this real world is known as “Corporate World”
It was at a very stage, I came to realize that the things which were happening to me was due to this corporate life. Till college we never knew hoe the real world looks like. WE have always been surrounded by good and selfless people. So it never came to our mind that people who are actually besides you can back stab you. Or even if someone is kind to you, the sme person can back stab you when it comes to climbing the corporate ladder.
In the initial stage, though being a topper in my entire life, i always used to struggle with Job. I always thought or it was always said to me that you are not doing good enough. The self doubt was always magnified with the judgy feedback which we received. Though with self awareness and after repeatedly facing the same challenges, I came to realize that It not “me’ who is wrong…Its my nature that is wrong.
With a big selfless heart you can expect to get the best employee award. You have to be cunning and mean or be very sharp. Thanks to be my job switches, and after talking to my teammates I got to know that actually everyone is sailing in the same boat. Everyone is being told the same lines. The one where they prove you are not capable enough!
So, if you are also at the very initial stage of your career and if you feel demotivated just because someone is scolding you or blaming you, be rest assured. Because this is not constructive feedback, it is just how the system works.
But at the same time, there are many leaders who have achieved milestones with sole hard work and intelligent brain. I really respect those people and I would love to learn from them. But your luck needs to be very good, to get those leaders as your Bosses.
So after my roller coater ride of this corporate journey of more than 9 years and after debating a lot with myself, I have come to a conclusion where now i am sure that I do not belong to corporate world. My values, morals and working styles are not aligned with these competitive world. It took me 9 years to be very sure of this, but this blog is a guidance to those who are stuck in these self doubts and dont know how to take step ahead in their life. Finding yourself is very important before you settle in your life. Do not settle for something which never gives you peace at night. Earning money is important, but at the same being satisfied is also equally important.
A 9 to 5 job will give salary at the end of the month, but it is not the end of the world. Learn and observe around your surrounding in the office and see if you want to climb that ladder. Do you see yourself doing the job that your Head of the Department is doing? If the answer is No, loook out for options. Trust me there are many and this never stops. If the answer is “yes”, then dont worry you will figure out a way to survive in this robotic corporate world. In any case, you will succeed!
